MOTIFDEVELOPER.COM WEB SITE LAUNCHED BY IMPERIAL SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGY

New Free Resource to Aid Linux and Unix Motif GUI Programmers

Palo Alto, California, December 5, 2000 -- Imperial Software Technology (IST) today announced the launch of a new Web site, www.motifdeveloper.com, a free resource for programmers building graphical applications using the Motif® toolkit on the X Window System. Motif is the standard graphical look-and-feel delivered with most versions of the UNIX® operating system, including Sun's Solaris®, HP-UX®, SGI Irix® and IBM's AIX®. Now programmers working with Motif have a new expert resource to consult for technical assistance and information. Motifdeveloper.com is a completely revised version of the original "Motif on the World Wide Web" (MW3) site founded by Ken Sall, originally of Century Computing and now of Commerce One. The new site will be regularly updated with hints and tips for Motif programmers and will provide a Q&A service backed by IST's technical support resources and specialist expert staff.

"Motif is the most successful graphical user interface toolkit available for UNIX® platforms," said Allen Brown, President and CEO of The Open Group. "We support the provision of as much information about Motif as possible and the motifdeveloper web is an excellent example of that. This will have the dual benefit of increasing the use of Motif and result in a growth in the number of applications ultimately benefiting the end-user"

Derek Lambert, CEO of Imperial Software Technology said: "This site will provide Motif programmers with an invaluable resource to help them in creating professional user interfaces with Motif, the world's most popular graphical toolkit for the X Window System. While some new toolkits have been created for the X Window System in recent times, the fact remains that Motif is the most widely used graphical toolkit on UNIX systems. It is shipped with every Sun, Hewlett-Packard, SGI, IBM and Compaq UNIX workstation. That's about a million new Motif-based desktops every year. So Motif dominates the UNIX graphical desktop."
